Instead of geology, here is art evolution. A simple photo blog of the stages from first layers of colour through to the finished painting.
Intertidal is a 130cm x 150cm painting on canvas of the shale "scar" between Whitby and Saltwick Bay.

| First layers of reds and green to build structure. |

| Scumbles of dark purple - this creates a deep violet over the reds and a brown/black over the green. |

| Adding several glazes of light blue over all areas. |
 |
| Grey, blue and purple glazes to build depth. |
 |
| After many blue, purple and lavender glazes - strengthening lines within the landscape. |
 |
| The tape protected a light blue/grey area to retain a light form on the horizon. |
 |
Finally, a lot of layers of blue grey and dark glazes to slowly hide the underlying structures - creating a soft atmospheric landscape. |
