The artist's tool - eyes

Today I picked up my very first pair of varifocal glasses. Yes dear friends it's time for reading glasses.

When consulting with my optician she of course asked what I do for a living. Being an artist means my eyesight is actually one of my most important tools.

Going through the options I plumped for the highest range lense in the Boots range (the Zeiss lens weren't in my budget).

And as a bonus, my mid-range vision should improve! That's eye to palette distance or eye to canvas distance. I'm really looking forward to that! I know my middle distance has been suffering for a few years now - getting tired eyes looking at exhibitions and galleries was never common. But it took until it was getting hard to read to break down and admit something had to be done.

So I embrace getting older.

But if my paintings suddenly look weird you'll know why!

As middle age approaches so do the varifocals
As official retirement age looms large on the horizon so do the cataracts!
I'm getting new lenses too - but mine require surgery! :) (plus I don't need to pay for the frames!!!)

Mind out for verical and horizontal lines that are distorted by varifocals otherwise I love my varifocals even if they cost a fortune.

I've had varifocals for quite a while now. I've experimented with just the reading component, but they make me feel nauseous. I've got the cataracts too...

I've had varifocals for a while now and still find myself reading through the wrong part from time to time. Oh well ...
Good frames btw.
