Work in progress - Loom III?

Posted by on Wednesday, February 29, 2012

This is a lesson in changing your mind. I started this canvas as one of a pair - one of the water and one of the sky. This is the water. Aiming for ripples in the evening light.

Carried on working the underpainting but quickly realised something wasn't feeling right. A bit twee and predictable, I don't want to just be doing pretty seascapes.

Then it hit me - it wasn't epic! It wasn't that looming sense of the waves! It had no drama. Keeping in mind that I've just finished two vertical paintings based on waves I sat pondering it... then turned it sideways.

Ah yes. Now that I can work with!

This so lovely and very often you can see something in a painting just by
looking at it from a differrent viewpoint
