Yesterday was a laboratory day. No hill walking. (whew) Looking at thin slices of rock under the microscope. Which is not to say the view was any less spectacular...
The exact same bit under cross-polars (turned about 180 degrees counter-clockwise, the dark black unit bottom of the first image is now at the top of the second image). Different minerals do different funny things in cross-polarized light.Today is the last full day of geology out in the field. Tomorrow a short trip out to a mystery quarry and then our final test! Home in London by 11pm.
I'll miss the three cooked meals a day. But I have the tastiest treat known to man to get me through today at least...
Need I say more?

Tina thank you for blogging this trip - your course looks fascinating and it's had me on the OU site thinking about what I might do.
Those rock slivers are fascinating and beautiful and I'm glad you are enjoying this course so much. I wonder what will come of it artistically? Anyway, good luck with the test!
