While I'm out on the bike (hopefully it's not raining right now) here's progress images from the two Splash paintings. Working on such blue pieces is a challenge at the moment - it was the summer colour on the lake but at the same time I'm back in grey English sea mode.
So for much of the time I've been working on them upside down. Oddly, I felt the more curved upright splash (on the right in the photo of both) was by far the better painting as a was working and struggling with the simpler one.
Until I turned them right-side-up. Now the curved splash seems very weak.
For the curious, there's a lot of blues in these. And even some greens. The darker concrete seafront area is warm colours - mainly earth tones and violets. The sea/water sections are sap green and violet underpaintings with different areas and glazes of ultramarine, cobalt, cerulean and the gorgeous indanthrene blue (which I love but use sparingly, it's very very strong). To deepen the darks I'm using a very dark green grey mixed using hooker's green and quin violet.
The plan is to finish these two and the Skies paintings before starting the paintings based on my Essex trip of the last two days.
