This week I thought I'd walk you through a typical "fresh start"!
That time when one set of work is near completion and the next is starting to get underway. So ironically a new start begins with that finish...
Paintings completed! The Splash paintings from the Lake Michigan series are done. I'm pleased with both but in typical fashion the 3rd painting of the series has been abandoned from its original concept. (Not unusual, I'd say about a third of my work ends up incomplete or set aside - but I'm using this one now to play with a new idea. Sort of a 100x120cm study for a larger 120x150cm piece!)
So may I present, left to right:
Splash (Starboard) and Splash (Port)
100cm x 79cm each, acrylic on canvas
The irony of their positions in the photo being wrong compared with their titles amuses me. :) But the names are accurate. The larger splash relates to starboard because as I exited the marina where my parents are based in Racine, Wisconsin- either in a rubber dinghy with my brother or alone in a kayak - I turned left towards the beach (a calmer area). So the main waves coming in along the lake hit the the right (starboard) side of the boat more heavily, with smaller splashes at the rear left (port) side of the boat.

I started the process for the next set of work - tomorrow a live recording from that coast ride!
